Summer is the time when everyone is trying to be their healthiest and look their best. Blame it on the less-is-more clothing options of the bikini/bathing suit season. It's a time to enjoy the activities we have been missing since winter – jogging, biking, hiking and the like. Long Island is teeming with outdoor exercise classes to enjoy in the warm summer months. Zone Z Fitness (of Bayport) is hosting Zumba Under the Stars at Common Ground Park in Sayville on Tuesday, August 11th at 8pm. This event is open to all fitness levels and kids 13 and up. Zumba is a fun dance/aerobics hybrid that will have you laughing and having fun, so much so that you won't even realize you're exercising. Wear sneakers. Bring a water bottle.
Hosted by Om Shanti Om Yoga there will be yoga in the Common Ground Park in Sayville on Sunday, August 16th from 8:30 – 9:30 am. Open to yogis of all ages and skill levels, no experience is required. Be sure to bring a towel, water, and your own yoga mat.
Old Westbury Gardens
What better place to unwind and practice yoga than the ever beautiful grounds at Old Westbury Gardens? The class is from 11:15am-12:30pm hosted by instructor Lorili Henry, held every Thursday and Saturday – weather permitting. Members cost is $5 per session, non-members $15. Yogis are asked to bring their own mat, yoga strap, and towel, and don't forget a bottle of water.
Tai Chi is hosted in the Gardens from 10:30am-11:30am by instructor Linda Cafiero. Her class is for open to all skill levels. Tai Chi is offered every Wednesday and Sunday, weather permitting. Again, $5 for member, $15 for non-members.
The Garden of Eve Organic Farm & Market is hosting a farm-to-yoga experience on Sunday, August 16th from 4-8pm. This is an exciting organic experience with yoga and dinner included in ticket price ($95pp). Plan to arrive at 3:30pm, receive a tour of the farm, then start the yoga class at 5:15, and end the evening with a delicious organic dinner from the field and served in the field. Get tickets here.
Wolffer Estate Vineyard hosts a kick-ass HIIT Bootcamp Class. These workout are both challenging and fun given by trainer Sander Vanacker. Exercises include cardio drills, core and partner exercises (bring a buddy.), and body weight exercises. You will surely be feeling the effects of this workout. Dress appropriately, sneakers, and light weight clothing. Bring water and a yoga mat (optional). Classes are held Saturdays at 8:30am. Wolffer also hosts a multitude of different yoga classes throughout the summer, including a sunset class in the evening. View schedules and register online.
