This Valentine’s Day Skip the Chocolate and Drink Local

When you think Valentine’s Day, what beverage pops into your head? Chances are it’s a bubbly champagne or a fine bottle of wine you’ve been saving all year for this one special night. In the past, the thought of pulling out a beer on Valentine’s Day would have been unheard of (unless you were looking to drown your sorrows), but these Long Island beers just might make the perfect dessert.

Long Ireland Beer Company, Riverhead

Chocolate Porter

This rich porter from Long Ireland is smooth, creamy and drinks like an after dinner treat. If you’re not a huge hoppy beer fan and tend to prefer sweet coffee drinks, give this one a try and don’t let the dark color intimidate you.

Barrage Brewing Company, Farmingdale

Yada Yada Yada

Seinfeld fans may already cozy up to this beer just based on the reference, but Yada Yada Yada is more than just a catchy name. The beer--brewed with peanuts, caramel and chocolate--honestly tastes like a liquid candy bar.

Port Jeff Brewing Company, Port Jefferson

Cold North Wind

Cold North Wind is a barleywine (hey, it has wine in the name) that’s on the malty, sweet side and packs a punch at almost 9% ABV. A limited apple brandy barrel aged version is being released at the brewery on Valentine’s Day, so why not make a date of it and sample their other offerings while you’re there?
