It's September on the East End and that means one thing — Apple picking time! The East End, which is known for its sweet corn, pumpkins, great-tasting wines and beers, is also an apple Mecca September through October.
If you are looking to spend a day picking and eating apples, but aren't sure where to go, below, we provide a listing of some of the best apple picking locations on the East End of Long Island.
Located at 812 Sound Avenue in Wading River, the family-owned Lewin Farms, offers a variety of pick-your own apples through October and also pick-your own peaches until mid-September. The farm is open daily from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Located at 65 Seven Ponds Road in Water Mill, Seven Pond Orchard specializes in a variety of apples. Ready in September are Ginger gold apples. While there, you can also pick you own sugar snap peas, string beans, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, blackberries and raspberries. The farm is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Located at 28700 Main Road in Cutchogue, Wickham's Fruit Farm is one of the oldest orchards on the East End of Long Island. The farm offers apple picking to members only, but if you become a member you will receive daily updates on apple availability. The farm also offers apple pies, doughnuts and cider. The farm is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Located at 240 Montauk Highway in Water Mill, Hanks Pumpkin Town offers a wide variety of apples for your family to pick on weekends only during the fall. The farm is open for apple picking on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The farm also features activities for the kids, as well as candy apples, cider doughnuts and hot or cold apple cider.
