Driving down Middle Country Rd. in Lake Grove you could smell the smoky goodness coming from a mystery location from miles away. If you don't know the restaurant it's coming from it is surely your loss, but don't worry, we'll clue you in.
The Good Steer in Lake Grove has been cooking up some amazing signature dishes since 1957. This cozy family-friendly restaurant has kept its décor warm and inviting since opening its doors, and if it’s not the food, it’s certainly the never changing homey atmosphere that brings its loyal customers back year after year.
With a wide array of menu options it is certainly hard to choose, but if you're looking for the ultimate indulgence look no further than the classic 'cheesy dream' hamburger. Cheese lovers will never look at another cheese burger the same after one bite.
The 'Classic Cheese Dream' consists of a hamburger topped with tomato, the delectable creamy 'dream' sauce, bacon strips, and The Good Steer's infamous crispy french fried onion rings. Their onion rings, much like the cheese dream, is like nothing you'll find in any other restaurant. Sliced extra thin, and breaded in a top secret blend, they're cooked to absolute crispy perfection...which begs the question, do you ask for extra onion rings on the side or do you dare ask for a side of fries instead? I'd say do both, and also order an extra side of dream sauce to dip your fries into.
If you've saved room for dessert you're in luck, and deserve a round of applause, The Good Steer has some amazing dessert options. Fall calls for an order of their apple or pumpkin pie, which cannot be passed up. Should that not interest you though, try the over/under which is basically a mountain of whipped cream, ice cream (chocolate or vanilla), and hot fudge over a piece of pound cake. Heaven on a plate.
The Good Steer is located at 2810 Middle Country Road in Lake Grove. Open 7 days a week.
