Perabell Food Bar in Patchogue is always in the conversation when discussing the best restaurants on Main Street in our favorite new food mecca. Yes, the location right next to the theater is perfect and the vibe is cool, but if the food doesn’t deliver, it wouldn’t be talked about for long. At the helm of the kitchen is Executive Chef James Klein. Raised in Sayville, Klein had his first apartment in Medford and now lives in Patchogue with his family, so you could say he’s a local.
Chef Klein and his wife first discovered the restaurant as patrons. Klein explained, “It was exactly what we looked for in a restaurant, great food, great atmosphere and great service.”
At the time Klein was enjoying a seven year run working at a waterside restaurant and had no intentions of leaving. Then Hurricane Sandy struck and he was suddenly searching for employment. Klein recalled, “I spent five hard months in another restaurant before beginning the interview process with PeraBell.”
In hindsight, the entire experience was “a string of events that I can now say was the best thing to ever happen.” Chef Klein and his PeraBell brethren are excited about the opening of their second location on Main Street in Riverhead this month. The new spot will feature a custom mosaic wood burning pizza oven built and delivered from Naples, Italy. And that really makes us hungry.
