Jam band fans have been well aware of Keller Williams and that looping thing he does that lets him play and improvise with himself (an entire band of himselves).
Since his emergence some 20 years ago (has it been that long?) Williams has shared the stage with the likes of Bob Weir and Ratdog, Bela Fleck, String Cheese Incident, among others and has formed various lineups in his own accompanying bands.
But his solo gigs always still steal the show.
He’ll play multiple instruments on stage, recording pieces (or phrases) then picking up a new instrument and playing over the first instrument (looping).
He’ll then build on that in what becomes an improvised jam mashup of sounds that could take you anywhere (and usually does).
Experience Keller Williams playing with himself in all his looping glory at the YMCA Boulton Center in Bay Shore on October 29.
