If you are looking for something special to do this weekend with friends and family, here are 7 must-attend events this weekend across the East End from a Cardboard Boat Race in Riverhead to a carnival in Southampton and a pet adoption event in Westhampton. So grab your calendar and start making plans.
Bideawee Adoption Center of Westhampton Beach is holding an artisan craft fair and adoption event at its headquarters on 118 Old Country Road, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The free event will feature handmade crafts and animals that need homes.
The Elks Club of Southampton is sponsoring a carnival that will run all weekend, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at their headquarters, 605 County Road 39. The carnival will feature rides, games and food. The carnival is free to attend but to enjoy the rides, you will have to buy tickets for $30 or $20.
The 5th annual Cardboard Boat Race in Riverhead is set to start at 9:00 a.m. It's an exciting race that is sponsored by the Town of Riverhead. Families and individuals can enter their own cardboard boat creations in the race that takes place on the Peconic Riverfront, 31 McDermott Avenue, Riverhead.
If you like classic cars, you will want to head over to the 3rd annual Classic Car Show, which is sponsored by the Shelter Island Historical Society. The event will feature pre-1970 cars and fire department engines. The show starts at 3:00 p.m. at 16 South Ferry Road, Shelter Island. Children under 12 are free, $10 for adults.
The Peconic Baykeeper and the Waterkeeper Alliance are holding their annual Benefit for the Bays on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Long Wharf, in Sat Harbor. The event will feature a dinner cruise at a cost of $500 or $100 for dockside party after the dinner cruise.
On Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., The First Presbyterian Church and St. John's Episcopal Church on Main Street in Southampton will be holding a summer fair, featuring food, vendors, Chinese auction, as well as clothing, collectibles, toys, furniture and plants.
On Friday night, at 7:00 p.m. the Riverhead Foundation will hold its annual Oceans of Hope Gala at the Riverhead Aquarium, located on Main Street in Riverhead. The gala will feature luau-themed dinner and dancing, as well as casino games and a silent auction. Tickets are $175 per person.
