A petition on We the People to deport Justin Bieber and revoke his green card has officially reached the threshold forcing the White House to issue a response. We the People is the White House's official website for citizens to petition the federal government.
The rules are simple. You create a petition. You must gather 150 signatures for the petition to be publicly searchable on the site. You then have 30 days to obtain 100,000 signatures. Then, as the site states, "Once the petition reaches the required threshold, it will be put in a queue to be reviewed by the White House. Others can still sign the petition while it is awaiting a response from the White House. When the White House responds, everyone who has signed the petition will get email from the White House to let you know that we’ve reviewed and responded to the petition."
The website has a history of some seriously funny petitions. While some have been removed by the administration for public viewing or are no longer available because they did not meet the required signature threshold, my favorite one has to be the petition to "Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016." In a tremendous response that we can only hope is a prelude to the one we can anticipate on the Justin Bieber petition, the White Houses's response began as follows:
This Isn't the Petition Response You're Looking For
The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn't on the horizon. Here are a few reasons:
- The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.
- The Administration does not support blowing up planets.
- Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?
So what does the response to the Bieber petition hold? Time will tell. For now, you can sign the petition because you either want Bieber deported and his green card revoked or because the White House will send you an email with their response to the petition. Either way sounds like a win to me!
